We have all been told that you should service your boiler regularly, but what does that mean? Should you service your boiler every month? Every year? Or just wait until you have a problem?
Knowing when to service your boiler can be tough, we are not all gas engineers!!
That is why I’ve written these easy to follow steps on when to get the boiler serviced!!
You should make sure that your boiler is serviced every year. I know it’s easy to forget that’s why we can send you reminders a month before its due.
An annual service is regular enough to keep your boiler in good working condition and pre-empt and potential problems.
As well as keeping your boiler running when you need it, an annual service is also a condition of the warranty for many new boilers. If you want to keep your boiler’s warranty valid, you will have to service it annually. Otherwise your nice long warranty with the manufacturers will become invalid, a lot of the big boiler installation companies don’t tell you this, that’s why we think it’s important to remind you every year that your service is due.
In some instances, not servicing your boiler annually can leave your home insurance invalid too, should you encounter a boiler problem.
As well as servicing your boiler every year, you should also consider servicing when you move into a new home.
When moving to a new house, you do not always necessarily know when your boiler was last serviced. Servicing when you move will ensure that there are no unwanted problems left behind by the previous owner. Although it is something you can request is done before you buy the house it is not a legal requirement to have it serviced before the sale.
A service when you move home also means you know when the boiler’s last service took place, and you can keep servicing it annually afterwards.
As you should be servicing your boiler every year, it’s a good idea to plan ahead and service your boiler when engineers are likely to be less busy and you will be able to make an appointment quicker.
If there is an issue with your boiler, servicing in the summer also means you won’t be left cold while it’s fixed.
Book in your service for July or August and make sure your boiler is ready for the Winter.
An annual service should be enough to keep your boiler in top condition, but if it has been a while since your boiler was serviced and your boiler seems inefficient, a service may be in order.
A boiler that is not running efficiently is costing you money, so having your boiler serviced should get it back into working condition. Also, we can advise on any extra maintenance that may be needed such as a powerflush to clear the system through and get it back to top working condition. A service will also help find if there are any problems with your boiler.
Do not wait until you have a problem before booking a boiler service!!!
If your boiler seems to be working well, it’s easy to forget about it! Be aware that problems can be hidden for a long time and a repair of something that has been building up can cost a whole lot more than a service.
Get your boiler serviced every year, and don’t wait until it’s too late.
